IFMA Northeast Wisconsin January meeting
Have you ever wondered how all those recyclables your facility collects are sorted and processed once they leave your facility? Have you ever wondered why some plastics are recyclable and others are not? Here's your chance to find out.
We have arranged for a tour of the Tri-County Recycling Center, a partnership between Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties that processes all the recyclables for the 65 communities in the counties plus most of Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Alex Nett, the Recycling Coordinator, will provide us with an overview of how the partnership works, the current market for recyclables and upcoming changes and share with us new technology scheduled to be implemented in the near future that will affect the collection of recyclables. Following that, we will tour the operation so that we can see just how all the co-mingled recyclables are sorted and baled for sale to manufacturers to support the cost of collection.
As the communities in Northeast Wisconsin continue to grow, recycling reduces the consumption of space in our landfills and the corresponding impact on our local environment, making our communities more attractive to people looking to relocate to our region. By learning how the process works and about new advances coming to the field of waste recycling, we in facility management will be better equiped to streamline our in-house collections and prepare for changes to come. Join us for this informative event!
Personal protective equipment will be required for the tour of the plant. If you have steel-toe footwear, please wear it; close-toed shoes are required. If you do not have your own safety glasses/high-vis vest/ear plugs, you will be able to borrow them at the facility.
The recycling center does not have facilities to accommodate us for the meal, so we will be holding lunch beforehand at Beefeater's Pub & Grill located across Highway 41 from the recycling center at 2331 E. Evergreen Drive. When you arrive, please head back to the English Garden Room in the right rear corner of the restaurant to be seated. Lunch will be individually ordered from a special menu provided.
Lunch begins promptly at 11:30 (please arrive a few minutes early for ordering). We will leave the restaurant at about 12:20 to drive to the recycling facility. Please park anywhere in the parking lot and enter through the door underneath the large 'OC' sign. Our presentation begins promptly at 12:30.
