What is the International Facility Management Association?

IFMA is the largest and most widely-recognized professional association for facility management. The Association's members are represented in 120+ chapters, 16 councils and 7 communities worldwide. Globally, IFMA certifies facility managers, conducts research, provides educational programs, recognizes facility management degree and certificate programs and produces World Workplace, the largest facility management-related conference and exposition.

 

Chapter Mission Statement

The Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the International Facility Management Association is an association of facility management professionals with the common goal of advancing their profession and promoting individual career development through education, networking, and information-sharing.

Definition of Facility Management

Facility management is a profession that requires experience in multiple disciplines to ensure a healthy and functional built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology.

It encompasses many duties, including the following:

  • Plan/renovate buildings and spaces for comfort and productivity.

  • Oversee construction projects and arrange employee moves.

  • Coordinate with IT and HR to address organizational changes. 

  • Negotiate contracts and coordinate with vendors.

  • Spearhead security, disaster planning and recovery.

  • Maintain compliance with government, environmental, health and safety requirements.

  • Continually monitor the facility so it's safe, secure and well-maintained.

  • Manage diverse real estate assets, sometimes in multiple locations.

  • Prepare budgets, manage accounts and forecast expenses.
